Our Love Story

     Matthew and Nadiyah met in May of 2022 during an Army field OP and have been inseparable ever since. Nadiyah's favorite flower is a  Sunflower and her favorite color is Turquoise, hence the engaement's party's name: Operation Turquoise Sunflower. ​    For those who don't know their story, Nadiyah and Matthew officially met in the Army during a field operation in May 2022. We had a previous encounter that we barely remember, but that's beside the point. During this field op, they grew close. The attraction was there for Matthew from the start, but how did he trick her—I mean, what drew her to him? The only explanation is divine intervention.
As we recount this story, we relive every moment. Everywhere Matthew went, Nadiyah was there too. Our first time alone together was when we gathered food and supplies for our group and decided to go joyriding in a Humvee around Savannah, GA. Maybe it was the camaraderie or just being alone in an unfamiliar place with only each other for company— whatever the case it felt right.
We started sharing dinners together and soon noticed a twinkle in each other's eyes. One of our most memorable moments was when we were returning to base alone with a bluetooth speaker playing old-school music. "My Girl" by The Temptations came on, and she told me how her dad had the movie at home, and they watched it religiously on weekends.
As more songs played and we traded favorites back and forth, she suggested some songs she thought I didn't know but that I loved. This shared passion for music drew us closer.
At one point during our journey back to base while stopping for fuel, I switched the music to my "love" playlist to see if she felt the same way without saying it outright. As she got out of the vehicle (she was my TC), we joked and laughed together while passing playful flirts. WELL... A little over 3 years later and we are here. I'm getting to propose to my bestfriend, my battle buddy, my boo.​​
